Another super literacy carousel this morning. Each group rotated through four activities: spelling practice, reading books, reading comprehension card and a VCOP activity (today’s was a game separating Proper Nouns and Common Nouns).

This week we have been using film, books and online research to learn about the respiratory system and finished off by making a working model of a lung!
As part of our ‘How the Body Works’ learning, we have been focussed on the heart and the blood! Today, all of these super scientists worked together to make their own drop of blood. There were lots of excellent discussions about the different parts of the blood (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) and their function.
Today P4/5 practised their teamwork skills when making a child-sized model skeleton. They had to think back on all their learning from this week and use reference guides to work together to accurately organise, assemble and then label the skeleton😀
After performing their own research, listening and watching for information from books and film clips and trying out a quiz, P4/5 are hard at work pulling all their information together to create an informative leaflet! Lots of effort and focus in class today 😀
To coincide with COP26, P4/5 used questions to guide research. Last week, we used the internet and searched online. This week, as a class, we used different news clips to find the information we needed. We had to listen very carefully and discuss the clips with our buddies before taking notes to answer the research questions.
The questions centred on who would be there, when the event takes place, where it takes place and why the event was taking place. We then looked at a key speaker from the opening ceremony and had to note down who he was and some of the points he was making. This information will be used later to inform our weekly newspaper. Look out for the images! Today P4/5 applied all their learning about ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ so far to create an informative and eye catching poster to help other people. They are working very hard to make sure it is helpful with relevant information and detailed illustrations as well as being eye catching and easy to follow. Look out for images on here once they are completed and then, look out for these around your local community!
In P4/5, we have started to learn about issues surrounding the environment and the climate. A lot of focus will be on recycling, reducing and reusing whilst also considering Global Goals and the efforts and decisions made at COP 26. Today we became researchers and started to look at answering some of the questions we had as a class. Using the IPADs, children were learning to search for information to answer specific questions, how to verify the information by checking other sites and how to note take (it was tricky not just copying the text from the website!). Everyone made an excellent start today, were super Focussed Finlay’s on the task and I am looking forward to some in-depth discussion tomorrow!
